The OpenCascade HLR kernel computes each view from the solid model itself. Edges hidden behind material come through dashed, silhouettes are exact, and nothing is approximated from a mesh or a picture.
You choose what 'front' means
A 3D preview lets you rotate each part onto the orientation you want documented before projection, so the views come out the way a drafter would lay them out rather than however the model happened to be saved.

Frequently asked
Can I upload an STL or OBJ file?
No, and this is deliberate. Mesh formats describe a surface as thousands of triangles with no notion of a circle, a plane or an edge — so a hole is not round, it is a many-sided polygon. There is no exact geometry to measure, which means any dimension taken from a mesh would be an approximation. Drawlytic works from STEP because STEP carries the true B-rep solid.
Which CAD systems does it work with?
All of them, indirectly. Every mainstream CAD package exports STEP (AP203, AP214 or AP242), and that is the input. There is no plugin to install and no compatibility list to check.
Are the views third-angle or first-angle?
Third-angle projection, the convention used in the US and much of Asia, with front, top and right views plus an isometric.
Can I get an internal cross section?
Yes. Draw a cutting line on any view and the engine produces a hatched SECTION A-A with its own PDF sheet, which is how you document internal bores, counterbores and pockets that hidden lines alone make hard to read.
How accurate are the dimensions?
They are measured on the exact B-rep geometry in millimetres, so a Ø28 bore in the model reads Ø28 on the drawing. Scale is 1:1 unless you choose a fitted or 1:N sheet scale.
Does it generate orthographic projections and blueprint-style sheets?
Yes. The output is a classic multiview drawing — front, top and right orthographic projections in third-angle convention plus an isometric view — laid out on a framed drawing sheet with a title block, the modern equivalent of a blueprint.
Can it convert SolidWorks or Fusion 360 models to 2D drawings?
Yes — export your part or assembly as STEP (File → Save As → STEP in SolidWorks; File → Export → STEP in Fusion 360) and upload it. The same works for Inventor, Onshape, CATIA, NX, Creo and FreeCAD.
